Wireless EV Charging

Mechanical and Thermal Design and Commercialization of 125-500kW Wireless Charging Systems for Electric Vehicles

As a mechanical engineer at WAVE, I collaborated with a tight knit group of engineers to fundamentally redesign our wireless charging technology for scale and to design and roll out inline product changes to improve performance and reduce cost.

Personally, I was responsible for:

  • Thermal design of high power electronic and magnetic systems and components, including active and passive cooling systems for inverters, rectifiers, and inductive coils.

  • Mechanical design of metal, plastic, ferrite, and composite components

  • Designing and Evaluating Thermal and Mechanical test data

  • Monitoring thermal field data and making product recommendations

  • Implementing production scale 3D printer workflows for our manufacturing team

  • Collaborating with other engineering leaders to define requirements and roadmap for next-generation charging solutions, balancing market needs with technical feasibility (WAVE lacked any dedicated product roles, so the engineers were often responsible for product level decisions).
